Nursing research promotes breastfeeding
Critical strategies to enhance lactation care and improve breastfeeding outcomes for families will be available in the American Journal of Maternal/Child Nursing’s September/October issue. From empowering front-line health care providers and fostering supportive work environments to standardizing language, the research underscores the importance of nurses and the broader health care team in supporting breastfeeding. One study offers a resource for pediatric nurses to facilitate connections to lactation consultants and to prioritize frequent and effective milk removal shortly after birth to establish a robust milk supply. Another study found good or mixed nurse work environments result in higher hospital-level exclusive breast milk feeding rates. (Newswise news release, 8/1/25)
