Public health groups organize alternative to ACIP panel
Medical organizations and public health groups are collaborating with the Vaccine Integrity Project to provide vaccine recommendations. Launched earlier this year, the Vaccine Integrity Project is housed at the Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. With enough consensus, the group believes insurers could follow their recommendations in approving vaccine coverage. The move follows Health and Human Services Department decision to fire all members serving on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and replace them with eight new members, some of whom have made statements skeptical of vaccines. Public health officials worry routine child immunizations and other vaccines will no longer be readily available. (NBC News article, 6/22/25)
