Solutions offered to fight nurse fatigue

For nurses, the challenges posed by demanding work environments and schedules often lead to fatigue, and this can be exacerbated during crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic. An article in the December issue of the American Journal of Nursing looks at the causes and challenges of nurse fatigue and considers several evidence-based strategies and solutions for individual nurses and organizations. These include sleep training, workplace napping, drowsy-driving countermeasures, integrative health practices and technological solutions. Barriers to implementing these strategies, including workplace culture and inadequate staffing, are also described.
