States that did not sue over public health cuts lost funding
States that did not sue the Trump administration over its cuts to public health funding largely lost their funding, while states that fought back in court saw the funding restored, according to a KFF analysis. In March, the Department of Health and Human Services revoked nearly 700 grants from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention totaling about $11 billion supporting efforts to vaccinate people, reduce health disparities, upgrade systems for detecting infectious disease outbreaks and hire community health workers. Nearly 80% of the CDC grants have been restored in blue states, compared with fewer than 5% in red states, the analysis found. Four of the five states with the most canceled grants are Republican-led: Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Ohio. (KFF News article, 8/26/25)
