Study: Staff nurses who participate in administrative decisions are more satisfied
Research conducted at Cleveland Clinic found nurses are more likely to report improved job satisfaction when nurse leaders encourage them to contribute to decisions affecting their daily practice. Front-line nurses can help ensure decisions center on patient needs and clinical realities. Including nurses in decision-making can foster a sense of ownership, improve morale and strengthen trust between leadership and staff, leading to safer, more efficient and compassionate care, the research found. The researchers say clinical nurses should be given time to participate in decision-making activities and have access to budgets and quality improvement process outcomes. Findings were based on an anonymous survey of clinical nurses in 2023 at multiple Cleveland Clinic hospitals in Ohio. (Cleveland Clinic news release, 12/23/25)
