Nurses called to action on the opioid epidemic

Writing in Nursing Economic$, administrators at Seton Hall College of Nursing called on nurses in all settings to take action to address the opioid epidemic. They outlined relevant nursing roles in policy, education, research and practice, and asserted nurses are well positioned to address substance use disorders (SUDs) because of their “close interactions with patients and families in community and health care settings.” Expanded access to medication-assisted treatment and training for prescribers are among the policies the authors advocate.
