Foundation Committees
Volunteers help the AONL Foundation meet the ever-changing needs of nursing leadership by volunteering their service and expertise. These volunteers help keep the Foundation focused on how to best benefit the field by serving as advisors, idea generators, and sounding boards. They also help generate support for the Foundation to continue the work within our mission. Application submissions for 2025 volunteers are now open. Applicants will receive a notification in December.
Help plan and organize the annual Soirée. The Soirée will take place during the 2025 AONL Annual Conference in Boston. This premier event helps build awareness and raise funds to support the work of the Foundation.
Time commitment
One hour monthly conference calls plus additional time as needed/available.
Additional requirement
If possible, plan to attend the event and help on-site.
This committee evaluates research proposals received and makes funding recommendation the Board of Directors. This committee also reviews nominations for the Nurse Researcher of the Year Award. The Committee meets at various times through the year. Committee member names are not published.
Time commitment
Varies based on number of proposals/nominations received. At least one conference call meeting will occur when the committee meets to make its recommendations to the Foundation Board of Directors.
Requirement
Must have a graduate or doctoral degree. Research experience is preferred.
The AONL Foundation Fund Development Committee supports the development and fundraising activities of the Foundation. Members personally support the Foundation and actively participate in the fundraising and donor stewardship process. Members are asked to contact at least five donors each month to say "Thank You." Members are asked to provide introductions, participate in the solicitation process as appropriate.
Time Commitment
One hour monthly virtual meeting, plus one to two hours additional per month to reach out to donors.
Additional Requirement
Members are asked to make a personal, meaningful commitment to the Foundation prior to contacting other donors or partners.
This committee evaluates financial aid applications received and makes funding recommendation the Board of Directors. This committee also reviews the criteria and application process and recommends additional financial aid opportunities for the Foundation board to consider. Members of this committee area also asked to assist with increasing charitable support to provide more financial aid funding through introductions, brainstorming and working with the Development Committee.
Time Commitment
This committee meets via virtual conferences on an ad hoc basis, and work varies based on number of applications received.

Corporate Advisory Council
This diverse group of representatives from the corporate sector includes members who have an active interest in health care and the special role nurse leaders play in managing and developing the largest component of the health care sector’s workforce. Members of the Corporate Advisory Council serve as advisors to help the Foundation engage with the corporate community and advance the mission of the Foundation. Members are also asked to sponsor their seat on the Council, either as individuals or through their organization. For more information, see Corporate Partners.
Children’s Initiative Working Group
The purpose of this working group is to assist the Foundation in developing strategic goals and potential research questions for new research projects focusing on nursing leadership’s role within current issues affecting today’s children. Members of this group have participated in at least one AONL Fellowship program—either the Nurse Manager Fellowship or the Nurse Director Fellowship—and have expertise in pediatrics. Not currently seeking volunteers.
