AONL Releases Guiding Principles on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging

AONL this week released guiding principles on diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and belonging as part of its effort to promote environments where all members of the health care team feel safe and supported. The document’s first principle asserts, “Diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging are the cornerstones of human wellness.” The principles also note the centrality of partnerships, technology, data and research in furthering DEI and belonging within the nurse leader community. “These guiding principles embody the inclusion statements in our strategic plan. It’s clear this direction will create better working conditions for nurses and better care for patients,” said AONL CEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, who is also senior vice president of workforce and chief nursing officer of the American Hospital Association.
