CDC urges nursing home resident vaccination

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently urged nursing home residents to become vaccinated, following the release of research showing only 33% of residents were up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination. More than 70% had received influenza vaccination, and 10% had gotten RSV vaccination, based on data from the 20% and 19% of facilities reporting influenza and RSV vaccination coverage, respectively. The agency encourages health care providers to counsel residents that vaccines are the “most effective way to prevent severe outcomes from COVID-19, influenza, RSV and offer recommended immunizations.” (CDC news release, 12/21/23)
