Survey: ED screening could increase vaccine rates
A survey conducted in 10 emergency departments in eight U.S. cities found nearly half of respondents would agree to get a vaccine they were missing if offered one, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention research. Most respondents who were willing to receive a missing shot said they would be willing to get all of their missing vaccines, the survey found. Overall, 86% of adult respondents were not up to date with recommended vaccines, and half had not heard of the one or more vaccines they were missing, with flu, shingles and RSV vaccines most often missed. The researchers believe vaccine screening in EDs could increase recommended vaccine uptake for people with no primary care provider, including immigrants, uninsured and homeless individuals.
