NCC urges Congress to pass Cadet Nurse recognition bill

In a letter last Friday, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) urged to the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs to include the bipartisan United States Cadet Nurse Corps Service Recognition Act of 2019 (S.997) in any legislative package honoring the nation’s veterans. Nurse cadets who fought in World War II were not considered veterans under the GI Bill Improvement Act of 1977 (P.L. 95-202). S.997 would provide the cadets with honorable discharges, medal privileges and burial benefits in National Cemeteries under the administration of the Department of Veterans Affairs. AONL, part of NCC, is one of 61 national nursing organizations that signed the letter. (NCC letter, 9/11/20)
