Nurse execs offer advice on change management strategy
Nurse executives serving on a panel discussing change management strategy said CNOs should be able to name why they are implementing a change and anticipate the impact, success factors and potential pitfalls. AONL members Stefanie Beavers, DNP, RN, CNE at OU Health in Oklahoma City, Okla., and Theresa Dillman, DNP, RN, CNO at New York-based Northwell Health’s Plainview and Syosset Hospitals, emphasized nurses should include non-nursing stakeholders who are affected by the change. CNOs should solicit feedback on how nurses prefer to receive communication and use every tool available to keep them informed. They should ensure nurses feel comfortable providing honest feedback. In addition, leaders should be agile, data savvy and receptive to feedback. They advise CNOs to meet with peers to discuss problems and share solutions. (HealthLeaders Media article, 11/12/25)
