Sutter Health to boost nurse training with mobile simulation lab
Sutter Health is using a mobile simulation lab to standardize nurse training, strengthen teamwork and ensure equitable access to learning across geographically diverse locations. The Sacramento, Calif.-based health system’s simulation lab measures 44 feet and consists of two simulation rooms, two control rooms and a dedicated debriefing space built on a truck. The equipment consists of neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric mannequins and a birthing simulation. Managers incorporate the simulation training into nurses’ schedules. Leaders who want to use mobile simulation systems should start with workforce needs rather than technology, a Sutter representative says, and they should seek input from frontline nurses about how to make learning more accessible, reduce barriers to participation and create opportunities for teams to practice together.
