Voice article discusses nurse leader training to address racism

Seattle Children’s Hospital created a nursing shared governance council related to health equity, diversity, inclusion and antiracism as part of its strategic plan to increase and retain a diverse nursing workforce and to improve health equity outcomes. In the July issue of AONL Voice, the authors discuss how the council, comprised of staff nurses from multiple units, established a workshop to teach more than 40 nurse leaders skills for handling microaggressions among their staffs. Participants reported significant improvements in their skills and ability to address microaggressions, engage in courageous conversations and provide opportunities for uncomfortable feedback.
