Begley details AHA plan to improve maternal child outcomes

As a former obstetrical nurse, AONL CEO Robyn Begley, DNP, RN, is well acquainted with the toll on families when a mother dies after giving birth. In her role as senior vice president and chief nursing officer of the American Hospital Association (AHA), she champions efforts to reduce and eliminate maternal mortality. In this month’s Journal of Nursing Administration (JONA), she detailed Better Health for Mothers and Babies, an AHA initiative. The plan calls for several core actions: evaluate and act on data; examine and eliminate disparities; engage mothers and their families; and partner with community stakeholders. Begley’s essay also spotlights hospitals that have “stepped up to the challenge.” (JONA article, June 2020)
