Emory deploys NPs, PAs during pandemic

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the advanced practice leadership team at Emory Healthcare redeployed its nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) to create alternative care models. AONL member Bonnie Proulx, DNP, APRN, details in the May/June issue of Nursing Economics the innovations that minimized viral exposure to patients and staff and provided flexibility in managing services. The breaking down of service line silos increased engagement and communication and is expected to outlast the pandemic. The leadership team will continue to monitor and collect data in order to examine clinical outcomes, cost avoidance and provider engagement. (Medscape article, 8/21/20)
