NCC praises nursing program funding increase in House Appropriations bill
The Nursing Community Coalition praised the House Appropriations Committee for increasing funding by $2 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and providing level funding of $197.693 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research in the fiscal year 2027 Labor, Health and Human Services and Education bill. The committee approved funding of $307.472 for Title VIII programs, with increases to three programs. However, the NCC opposes the committee’s elimination of the Nursing Workforce Diversity Program and says it will seek to ensure funding continues. A FY 2027 funding chart provides further detail. The committee also took steps to recognize nursing as a professional degree and reverse the Department of Education’s final rule cutting the federal borrowing limit for nurses pursuing graduate degrees.
