RN Survey Reveals What Will Keep Nurses in Direct Care

Holding more than one job, workplace violence and concerns about occupational health issues are among the stressors prompting 44% of RNs in a recent AMN Healthcare survey to say they often feel like leaving their jobs. AONL member Cole Edmonson, DNP, RN, chief clinical officer at AMN Healthcare, said, "These are strong cautionary tales from practicing nurses who are telling us exactly what they want, what they're experiencing, and what will keep them at the bedside and in health care." The survey of nearly 20,000 RNs revealed opportunities for progress. These included improving safety practices and staff engagement, providing flexibility to allow for work-life balance and strong organizational support for diversity and professional development.
