NAHQ report quantifies quality ROI

The National Association for Healthcare Quality recently released a report quantifying how investing in the health care workforce to advance quality and safety improves health care facilities’ clinical and financial outcomes. NAHQ offers a validated process to build workforce capabilities while driving measurable cost savings and revenue gains. Findings include Northern California-based Kaiser Permanente’s 194% improvement in cost avoidance, resulting in $6.5 million in savings over two years; Irving, Texas-based Christus Health’s 50% reduction in serious safety event rates. Christus Health says NAHQ helped it reduce catheter-associated infections and central-line infections, decrease mortality and shorter lengths of stay, and reduce its pay-for-performance penalties.
