ACOG issues first vaccine recommendations

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology issued vaccine recommendations for pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women that differ from the federal government’s vaccine schedule. The organization, which made recommendations for the first time, said it wants to “provide and communicate clear evidence-based guidance and to address the growing vaccine misinformation that is circulating.” The recommendations align with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine schedule before Health and Human Services Department Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. assumed his position and changed the vaccine schedule without evidence. Thirteen professional and medical societies endorsed ACOG’s recommendations. ACOG recommends four vaccines during pregnancy: influenza; COVID-19; a tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis shot; and a respiratory syncytial virus vaccine. HHS no longer recommends the COVID-19 shot.
