AHA decries Medicaid cuts, offers feedback during bill markup

The American Hospital Association criticized Medicaid cuts of $715 billion in the fiscal year 2025 reconciliation bill advanced by the House Energy and Commerce Committee. The cuts would lead to “millions of hardworking Americans losing access to health care and many of our nation’s hospitals struggling to maintain services and stay open for their communities,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. The committee voted 30-24 along party lines to advance the bill to the House Budget Committee following a markup lasting more than 24 hours. The AHA sent a detailed statement to the committee during the markup with comments on certain sections of the bill, including potential changes to policies related to provider taxes and state directed payments, among other provisions. (AHA News article, 5/14/25)
