AHRQ toolkit aims to reduce MRSA, surgical site infections
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality released a toolkit to help hospitals reduce methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) at locations where surgical site infections are most common, including cardiac, hip and knee replacement and spinal fusion surgeries. The toolkit highlights four evidence-based strategies to prevent MRSA and surgical site infections. To promote a culture of patient safety and enhance teamwork and communication, surgical teams can incorporate strategies from the AHRQ Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program framework into their care team. The toolkit includes presentation and facilitator guides, as well as staff and patient training materials to help hospitals start or supplement their existing MRSA and surgical site prevention efforts.
