AONL Hosts Virtual Advocacy Day

AONL hosted its first virtual Advocacy Day on June 4, urging Congress to include nursing’s priorities in COVID 4.0 legislation and FY 2021 appropriations. AONL members joined the advocacy campaign, sending letters and social media messages to Congressional offices. They asked their elected representatives to increase funding for nursing education and workforce that promote diversity and inclusion; support services that promote clinician resiliency and mental health; make permanent waivers allowing advanced practice nurses to practice to the full extent of their licensure and training; and expand the ability of providers to use telehealth. Earlier in the week, participants attended a webinar covering how to write effective messages and a briefing to learn about AONL’s legislative priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. AONL continues to urge members to contact their legislators supporting these priorities.
