Hackensack uses virtual nursing to reduce falls, infections and improve satisfaction
Hackensack (N.J.) University Medical Center has relied on virtual nursing to reduce patient falls and catheter-associated infections, as well as to decrease travel nurse utilization. At the health system, virtual nurses complete patient admissions and discuss medications and protocols, enabling floor nurses to spend more time with patients. The system is expanding virtual nursing to more units. Nurse leaders looking to adopt virtual nursing should meet with vendors and visit sites to talk with front-line nurses who are using the technology, according to and Vice President and CNO Ramonita Jiménez, DNP, RN, who is an AONL member.
