Memorial Hermann program exposes students to nursing careers
Memorial Hermann partnered with a Houston-area school district to build a high school dedicated to exposing students to careers in nursing and four other in-demand healthcare fields. The school opened in August 2024 and will serve up to 760 students annually by 2028. It contains a mock hospital with simulation training and virtual reality. Students can shadow Memorial Hermann healthcare professionals. The Houston-based system intends to hire graduates and empower students to believe they are capable of attending college and pursuing healthcare careers. The hospital is working to remove state, local and licensing body rules preventing young people from entering healthcare at earlier ages and collaborating with academic institutions to allow their courses to count for college credits.
