New Mexico measles strategy could serve as model for other states
New Mexico combatted its 2025 measles outbreak and boosted vaccination rates by pairing a broad public communications campaign with greater statewide access to measles vaccination for children and adults. State public health leaders say other states could adopt the multipronged strategy to end the burgeoning U.S. measles outbreak. State health officials built a measles webpage in English and Spanish providing information on cases, vaccine recommendations, vaccination access locations and state Health Alert Network advisories and resources, including a nurse help line number. Nurses contacted people to who had had been exposed to measles, helped them find vaccination resources and advised them on symptoms and quarantine requirements. Health officials broadcast public service announcements on radio and television and posted on social media. (MedPage Today article, 3/17/26)
