NQF suggests improvements to Hospital Star Ratings

The National Quality Forum (NQF) released recommendations this week for improving the transparency, fairness, and usefulness of the federal Hospital Star Ratings program: Be clear about the program intent and goals; be transparent about what the Star Ratings do and do not convey; and design data presentation to meet consumer priorities and other user needs. The recommendations were developed during an August 2019 summit and represent the views of multiple stakeholders including patients, health care providers and health plans. A full version of the recommendations and additional information about the summit are available on the NQF website. (NQF news release, 11/6/19)
