Podcast details how health system created a safer workplace
An AONL podcast features senior nursing leaders at Memorial Hermann Health System in Houston describing how they created safe spaces to stem workplace violence by 9% in one year and improve employee engagement scores. AONL member John Voight, MSN, RN, vice president and CNO of Memorial Hermann, The Woodlands Medical Center and Leah Blackwell, MSN, RN, vice president and CNO, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, described how the system developed a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan, which includes a zero tolerance policy for violence and making it easier for workers to report incidents. The system also paired security officers with people whom workers thought might be at risk for aggressive behavior and added a behavioral health nurse practitioner and social worker to their emergency departments.
