Podcast explores fostering nursing innovation

In an AONL podcast, Northwell Health nursing leaders describe how they incorporated innovation into their strategic plan and created a formal nursing innovation council. The New Hyde Park, N.Y.-based health system enabled nurses at all practice levels to submit ideas, get feedback and advice from subject matter experts and receive support to develop their ideas. Nurse leaders invited nursing work groups to attend an annual nursing leadership retreat and pitch their ideas to a panel composed of health care leaders and experts who specialize in technology, team engagement and patient experience. Innovative ideas fostered at Northwell Health include improving the system’s virtual nursing workflow and patient experience, as well as implementing an RN-LPN dyad systemwide, resulting in improved outcomes and lowered costs.
