CNOs can improve ED nursing through education, research
To improve emergency department triage decisions, the Emergency Nurses Association developed an evidence-based education program. The blended online and live classroom education includes critical thinking and decision-making, effective communication and real-life triage situations. ENA President Ryan Oglesby, PhD, RN, said CNOs can build ED nurse confidence by encouraging nurse-led initiatives and including nurses in policy-making and revision processes. He noted poor triage decisions can delay medical care, increase mortality risk and complications and lead to longer hospital stays. (HealthLeaders Media article, 9/2/25)
